What rebate does a 5 kWh battery get?
Installed by 31 December 2026, a 5 kWh battery (the smallest size the program takes) earns 34 certificates. Each one is worth up to $40, so your installer takes $1,360 off the quote. All of its capacity is within the 14 kWh full-rate band.
Put in from 1 January 2027, it gets 28 certificates instead, about $1,120, since each kWh earns a little less after every half-yearly step down.
The 5 kWh rebate, state by state
The federal part is identical in every state. Two states give more. Western Australia pays $650 to Synergy customers or $1,900 to Horizon Power customers once they join a virtual power plant. In New South Wales, the VPP incentive comes to about $180 on top. The ACT gives no rebate but offers a 3% loan instead.
