Your installer takes this off the quote; you do not claim it. A few installers pass on a little less, as certificates can sell for just under $40. Join a virtual power plant and the NSW incentive adds about $486 more.

How this is worked out

The federal discount is paid in small-scale technology certificates (STCs). Multiply usable kWh by the STC factor for your install date: the first 14 kWh count in full, the next 14 (up to 28 kWh) count 60%, and the slice up to 50 kWh counts 15%; the total rounds down to whole certificates. Each certificate is worth up to $40 (the clearing house price); on the open market it sold for about $37 to $40 in 2026.

Factors: May to December 2026 6.8; January to June 2027 5.7; July to December 2027 5.2. Source: the Clean Energy Regulator's STC factor table.

Typical prices are the installed ranges published by CHOICE for 10 to 50 kWh (prices from SolarQuotes installers), with sizes in between drawn on a straight line. The state amounts come from each state's scheme page.

Tesla Powerwall 3 rebate for each size

The Powerwall 3 offers 13.5 kWh of usable storage, with solar panels of up to 20 kW fed through its own inverter. Because the federal discount is based on usable kWh, an install by 31 December 2026 gives $3,640 for the 1 Powerwall 3 and $6,600 for the Powerwall 3 + 2 Expansions.

Powerwall 3 + 1 Expansion (27 kWh)148$5,920$4,960
Powerwall 3 + 2 Expansions (40.5 kWh)165$6,600$5,520

One Powerwall 3 can have up to three Expansion units behind it, and each one adds another 13.5 kWh. Details from the Tesla product page.

Does the Tesla Powerwall 3 qualify for the rebate?

To qualify, it has to be a model the Clean Energy Council has approved, connected to solar, and fitted by an installer accredited with Solar Accreditation Australia. Your installer makes sure your exact model and inverter are on that list when they quote. What it is: lithium-ion, with the solar inverter built in.
