Battery Rebate Australia

How to Claim the Battery Rebate

The battery rebate isn't something you claim from the government. By signing, you give the certificates to your installer. Their value comes off your quote, and the installer claims them after the battery is installed.

How can the battery rebate be claimed?

  1. Get quotes from installers who hold accreditation from Solar Accreditation Australia plus a battery endorsement.
  2. On each quote, check the battery's usable size, the certificate count, and the size of the discount.
  3. Put your signature on the form that lets your installer create the certificates.
  4. Your installer fits the battery alongside your solar panels and then claims the certificates. What you owe is the discounted price.

Before signing, what should you look at?

  • The Clean Energy Council's approved list includes the battery, which holds «5» to «100» kWh.
  • It is installed together with solar panels, which can be new or ones already on your roof. No discount applies to a battery that only stores grid power.
  • It's the only battery claimed at your address, since certificates go to one battery per home.
  • The certificate price used in the quote. One certificate carries a value of up to $40, so quotes using a lower price give you a smaller discount.

For the full rules, see the program's eligibility page.

When is the date important?

What sets the discount is the installation day, not the day you got the quote. The amount drops twice: on 1 January 2027 and on 1 July 2027. A 10 kWh battery fitted no later than 31 December 2026 therefore gets about $2,720 off, and about $2,280 once January arrives. From that point on, the certificates are your installer's job, as explained by the federal energy department.

See your own rebate, then get quotes

Enter your postcode and battery size to see the federal discount and your state's extra. Accredited installers near you can then quote with the rebate already taken off.

Questions people often ask about claiming the battery rebate

Is applying for the federal battery rebate something I need to do?

No. The certificates are claimed for you by your installer, who takes the discount off the quote. You give them that right by signing a form.

What details belong on the quote?

Look for the battery model, the usable size in kWh, how many certificates there are, their value as a discount, and your final price.

When will the money reach me?

There's no payment to you. The invoice price has the discount already subtracted.

Am I able to claim the state rebate in the same way?

Yes, if you're in Western Australia: the state rebate also comes off the quote through the retailer. The NSW VPP incentive works differently: after you join, it comes from the VPP provider.
